At that time, Wilbur (Wib) Mock pursued the American dream of opening his own businesses after he learned the fine art of cabinetry and furniture making from talented local Amish woodworking craftsmen.

In 1954, Wilbur Mock started Mock Woodworking. The business grew, attracting talented craftsmen who created and installed high-quality, stylish kitchens and bathrooms for residences of Muskingum and other counties surrounding his Zanesville workshop.
Doug Mock grew up in the workshop, sweeping floors and learning every aspect of the business from his Dad and the other talented woodworkers. He went on to study business and pursued a corporate career before returning to Mock Woodworking in 1983.
The company soon began to serve commercial and retail customers, adding their unique knowledge of wood species, construction details and eye-catching designs for customers and professionals around the globe.
Over a Thousand Projects for Major Retailers
Mock has produced more than a thousand projects for large retail organizations such as American Eagle, Bath & Body Works, Bealls, Express, Victoria’s Secret, Vineyard Vines® and Abercrombie & Fitch, as well as global medical device and healthcare companies like Hill-Rom®.
Architectural Clients
Among the hundreds of Mock’s architectural clients are Huntington Bank, the Ohio State House, Marriott Hotels, Thompson Library at The Ohio State University, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westcott House and more.
New Acquisition
Early in 2019, Mock acquired Heartwood Manufacturing, a second-generation family-owned custom architectural and specialty retail woodworking company based in Batesville, Indiana – a region with strong traditions in high quality woodworking.
Founded in 1992 by Dale and Beth Meyer, Heartwood made store fixtures for many retailers, including Eddie Bauer, McAlpins, Banana Republic and Longaberger Baskets. They also crafted architectural products for Argosy Casino, Hampton Inn, medical casework for Hill-Rom and Conner Eye Center – among other projects.
Expanded Capabilities
The addition of Heartwood Manufacturing, now Mock Woodworking-Batesville, gives the company space exceeding 115,000 square feet of manufacturing room with increased technology and equipment. For store fixtures, the combined capacity of the two organizations is now able to serve a worldwide market.
For architectural woodwork, Mock’s two locations are now able to produce larger scale projects and utilize the capacity of both facilities to better serve customers.
After thirty-six years at the helm of Mock Woodworking, Doug Mock is transitioning leadership to Larry Sharrer, whose proven leadership experience in engineering, design and operations is guiding the company into a promising new chapter.

Doug is the second generation of Mock Woodworking’s founding family and is proud to have led the regional woodworking shop to become a leading resource for interior spaces worldwide. After 35+ years leading the company, Doug has transitioned leadership to Larry Sharrer. Doug is now focused on supporting the company and customers through strategic input, marketing, and key projects so that Mock Woodworking continues to grow and prosper.
Doug believes that Mock Woodworking’s longevity comes from offering customers the highest level of product and service quality in the markets we serve.
Among his favorite projects, he is especially proud of Mock’s installations at the Ohio Statehouse Restoration, the Hilton at Easton and Starstruck (country entertainer Reba McIntire’s office-studio complex).
